Those are a few – these are the ones I always reach for after I watch a bad film – it’s a good reminder excellent movies do exist

If you’re into multi-element stuff with lots of layers you don’t catch without several viewings, there’s a lot to be said for Noir. If you haven’t seen them yet, I’d really recommend “The Big Sleep” and “Casablanca” for you from The List. You may also want to give “The Ninth Gate” a try: funny, sexy, dark, intriguing, literary, painterly… I’m one of the few who’ll say so, but definitely worth several iterations of two hours’ time.

You’ve just noted one of the major points of The List: it’s completely, unashamedly subjective. I really appreciate that you gave it a look; and who knows? Maybe you’ll run across one of the movies on it that you hadn’t seen before one day and feel inspired to pick it up! Or maybe not; either way, you’ve thought of it, and that’s what I wanted to do here. (All right; it’s also fun knowing that some people’s heads will explode at seeing “Casablanca” and “Cobra” on the same list. But I see the the shameless inclusion of movies like “Cobra” etc. as something akin to when you see the highfalutin’ chefs on the Travel and Cooking shows admit that deep down, they just want a hot dog.)

Oh, and congrats on your year blog-a-versary!!

My pix are ones that have “hidden” stuff like intracies you don’t notice the first second or however many times you watch it. Also, they have two elements of enticement for example a comedy that deals with a political issue so I can chose which aspect or both I want to get out of the film experience

Wow we have different tastes. I have flicks I own and/or seen 40 times. I’m not a RomCom person either but you’re def more into sci fi and thrillers. It’s hard for me to comment since I haven’t seen 80% but I like star wars and history of the world…

Love this. I make it a policy to never have favorites or a number one anything. I keep a “top 5″. This is because we are ever evolving, changing and everyone interprets things different so deciphering “the best” is impossible to me.
